- Scripture
- Judges 11:29-31 (NRSV)
Big Idea: God can use flawed leaders to accomplish great things.
At the time of the text, the children of Israel were in trouble because they were being oppressed by the Ammonites.
- They were caught in a sin cycle.
- They would sin, then they would be oppressed, then they would cry out to the Lord, then God would deliver them, then they would have peace for a while until the judge died, and they would relapse and go back into sin.
- Historians tell us that Ammonites are known for their violence. They were oppressing the children of Israel.
- Jephthah is the one who was chosen.
- Jephthah went and lived in Tob, and God called the one who was ripping people off.
- If God can call a thug, God can call you.
- You have a place within the Kingdom.
- He defeated the Ammonites, but the words were his fatal fall.
- God didn't just send a deliverer. He sent thee deliverer.
