Big idea: A blessed family is not the one that never hurt you, a blessed family is the one God heals through you.

Don't conflate final form with over form.

  • He's a redeemer.
  • He's a God who looks at what is still left.
  • We are not looking for perfection we are looking for progress.
  • Progress doesn't mean of you move up or down it means we are being worked on by God.
  • Perfection isn't possible so don't judge what you haven't experienced.
  • The answer isn't what your parents did wrong it's what you do next.
  • You can cry and write every journal, however on the other side of telling it you have to work it.

Joseph has to do some work.

  • Verse 5
  • Joseph tells his brothers it is okay to grieve or be angry with themselves.
  • Blessing is not the absence of brokenness.
  • The truth is that Joseph cannot understand what to tell his brothers without first dealing with his hurts.
  • Joseph experiences betrayal because while he was supposed to have a life in front of him, his life was taken from him.
  • Just because you were abused doesn't mean you have to excuse it.
  • Each individual who was abused now has an opportunity to let what was used to destroy them to go on a new path to destiny.

In the text Joseph comes from a blessed one but a broken one.

  • He shows signs of brokenness.
  • Blessing is not the absence of brokenness.
  • The truth is that Joseph cannot understand what to tell his brothers without first dealing.
  • God is not intimidated by your shortcomings but calls you in spite of them.
  • Joseph has the opportunity of what his dad has always done which is trick to win.

Joseph was able to recognize that he was done wrong, but God is able to turn wrong things right.

  • The blessing is not in erasing the past but reorganizing it.
  • Joseph realizes that because God sent him, he has expectations for him.
  • In life we forget that God is looking for our faithfulness.
  • Many people struggle on how to be blessed when broken.
  • God is able to lift you from where you are.
  • Joseph recognizes that he is called to be a builder.
